Robert got up from the table and began to walk towards the door.

INT: LIVING ROOM- NIGHT

Robert grabbed his keys from the mantle and left.

EXT: THE GARAGE

Robert gets in the car and crys while he drives to D.J's House

“ I don’t known Robert I will see what he says but I think he really wants his money now, but I will see if he will give you an extension. But if he doesn’t you need to either find his money, or something that’s just as valuable as money.”
Robert went home wondering how he was going to pay D.J. because he was not one of those people you just wanted to mess with, you just didn’t want to owe D.J. anything.
“If only I could get this money,” Robert thought to himself.
While driving home Robert thought of ways he could try to attain some money but $20,000 is not just so easy to come by, if only he wouldn’t have had that minor gambling problem he would be okay, but we can’t focus life on the shoulda couldha wouldha’s.
Back at home Octavia was wishing that her mother would find out about the sexual activities going on between her and her father so that something could be done, because she really didn’t know how much longer she could continue this type of abuse.

INT: BEDROOM- NIGHT

“Ashley, girl I really need your help?” said Octavia to her best friend Ashley
“ Sure girl anything, whassap?”
“I need you to help me get a job and then eventually move out.”
“Tavia, is your father starting to get to you again?”
“Girl yes, the more and more I try to avoid him, he always finds the time to get what he wants. I just wish one day my mother could walk in and see him forcing me to have sex with him and help me.”
“ Then why don’t you just tell her or set it up?”
“Well I doubt if she would believe it, I mean its her husband, her companion for 23 yrs. And the father of her kids. I mean its happening directly to me and I could hardly believe it.”
“Well if you want it to stop you have to do something, whether you think someone would believe you or not.”
“I know, thanks for talking to me, and I’m going to call you later I’m about to get ready to go to sleep.
About two weeks has gone by and Robert decides that the only way he could try to get $20,000 was from borrowing it from the bank, hopefully his wife Candace wouldn‘t find out.

INT: BANK

“Good Afternoon, thank you for choosing Bank of America how may I help you.
“ Yes, I was interested in a small loan.”
“ May I see some identification and how much would you like to borrow?”
“ Here you are, and I would like to borrow $20,000.
“ I see, when were you looking to pay this back and what is your collateral?”
“ I honestly don’t know when I could pay it back, and I don’t have any collateral but I do have a savings and checking’s account here with my wife, but I don’t want this to tie in with that.”
“Well Mr. Gordon since you don’t know when you could pay the loan back nor do you have any collateral the most I could give you is $15,000.”
Robert thought quickly to himself and said that $15,000 would be better to have than nothing at all. So he got the money from the banker then left and immediately called Mike.
“Mike, this is Robert and um……..”
“Go ahead, D.J. is sitting here with me and he said today is the day!”
“Well I am 5,000 short”
Click…………………..

INT: LIVING ROOM

“Craps, he hung up…. What am I going to do. Think Robert think. Think quickly. Maybe I could make some runs for him, go scare a few people, do a couple of business meetings.. Come on lets be real thats just ain’t in me. Let me just call back.”
“Mike, can I speak to D.J. personally?”
“He said talk he could here you.”
“Look I really don’t know what else to do.”
“Okay I’ll tell you what. Here is two things you could you do. First I want Octavia she looking kind of nice.”
“Tavia my daughter?”
“Yeah your daughter, then you have to make a couple of runs for me.”
“Um…… you sure these are my only options?”
“Yes or you loose your life, and slowly.”
Robert drove home in disgust he really didn’t know what to do he didn’t want to loose his life nor did he want to give up his daughter, it was bad enough he had been sleeping with her since she was fourteen, now he would have to share her with D.J. and God only knows what he would try to do to her. But what else could he do. As Robert pulled up to his home, his son was outside playing basketball, and Octavia was on the porch talking to one of her friends.
“Hey Myron?”
“Hey dad what’s good?”
“Nothing much, bout to take your sister to the mall.”
“Um okay, pick me up some Harold’s on the way home please.”
“Okay”
“Dad please go to the one on 87th St. you know that the best Harold’s in Chicago. If they closed down I wouldn’t know what to do.”
“I got you”
“ Octavia” yelled her father to get her attention.
As soon as Octavia saw her father she immediately got sick and wanted to go.
“Tavia go grab your jacket, I want you to ride with me to go get your brother something to eat.”
Oh God I hope he is not going to try to have sex in the car, Octavia thought to herself.
“Okay.”
In the car on the way to D.J.’s house Robert decided that it was best that he told Octavia what he needed her to do so it wouldn’t come as a surprise.
“Octavia were bought to go over a man named D.J.’s house. “D.J.? The same D.J. who stays on 105th GD D.J.”
“Yeah that D.J.”
“For what and how and why do you know him”
“ Well he loaned me some money a couple of months back, and he wants it back but I only have some of …
“How much is some money dad?”
“why”
“Well I’m going with you so you might as well tell me.”
“$20,000”
“$20,000 for what, and what do I need to go for.”
“Don’t worry about all of that. Basically I only have $15,000, so he said bring you to him and make a couple of runs for him an then we would be even.”
“And you doing right?”
“What else was I supposed to do, he would kill me, do you want your father to die?”
“Honestly, I wouldn’t give a damn..”
“ Aye watch your mouth”
“Oh excuse my potty mouth”
Octavia began to cry and her father knew how much this was hurting her but he didn’t think he had any other choice. They were almost at D.J.’s place.
“Alright, Mike were outside”
“Come In”
“Well her she, now what runs do I have to make?”
“Well D.J. said that you will do the runs after you watch.”
“Watch? I have to watch him do my daughter.”
“That’s what he said.”
“He is really sick!!” Robert said angrily
Robert watched in anguish and disgust as D.J. had sex with his daughter, then Mike got his turn. Although that was not part of the plan, there was nothing he could really do.
Octavia cried frantically wanting to just die whether than being forced to have intercourse with both of these men. When they were both done Robert left and made the runs and then came back to get Octavia, and they drove home in silence.
Prior to going into the house Robert spoke.
“Tavia thank you, I am so sorry for the pain and hurt you endured today, but I love you.”
“ Well I hate you, I HATE YOU with a true passions and I wish that God would remove one of us from this earth and made you rot in hell.”
“Well”
“Yeah well”
Months passed and everything seemed like it was going fine. Robert hadn’t slept with Octavia after the time before she slept with D.J. everyone was doing fine, until Octavia went to the doctor and found out she was pregnant. She didn’t know who the father of her baby was. It was between three men and she didn’t know who’s it could be. Octavia went home to tell her father, but he told her he didn’t care and she was to have an abortion but that wasn’t on her agenda she wanted to keep the baby. Two weeks later her father asked if she had gotten rid of it.
“Octavia have you had an abortion yet?”
“No!”
“And why not?”
“Because I’m not having one, this baby is apart of me and I want to keep it, its my body I’ve let you use it for too long now and I will do as I please and I want to keep the baby and that’s what I will do.”
“No the Hell you will not, Octavia you will get rid of it and do it now!!” Robert was highly upset and yelled at Octavia, but forgot Candace was in the house and could here them.
“ Or else what Robert? What are you talking about and in such tone to our daughter” said Candace Octavia’s mother
“Yeah dad what are YOU talking about?”
“Shut up Tavia, nothing honey”
“Well it didn’t seem like nothing!”
“Yeah daddy it didn’t seem like nothing.”
“Tavia I’m not going to ask you again to shut up.”
“What? You know what mom, me and dad were discussing what we were going to do about this baby that’s in my stomach that may be fathered by him, or the other two men that he forced me to sleep with.”
“What wait say that again?”
“ We were discussing..”
“She’s lying Candace she’s sick and don’t know what she’s saying.”
“Yes I do mom. Daddy just doesn’t want you to know.”
“You know what…” said Robert before he slapped Octavia, she fell to the floor and he began to kick her yelling she’s lying. Candace tried to stop him but couldn’t and was hit in the process. Robert then started to beat his wife out of anger. During this time Octavia was able to get up, she went in the kitchen got a knife and started stabbing her father repeatedly. Although her father had died after the third piercing of the knife into his heart, Octavia continued to stab him out of anger. When the police came Candace and Octavia told them that it was act of self-defense because of what he was doing to them. The police believed them. A week later the funeral was held and Octavia had a miscarriage. Candace was upset that Octavia never told her what her father was doing to her, but Octavia is just glad that its all over, and Myron is just in shock.

FADE OUT:

2008 Presidential Primary Election

Above all the presidential elections I have seen, I believe that the presidential election for 2008 is the most important election thus far. This election will make a mark in history. The negative mindsets of some individuals may change. For the first time in our nation’s history, there is a strong chance that we could have either an African American President, or we could have a woman leading our nation. Either one of the candidates would a great leader. They both stand firm on good platform's that they feel would be great to implement if chosen for presidency; however, its still up to 50 states to decide.

February 5, 2008

The news stations and several students of Clark Atlanta University's Mass Media Arts Department called this spectacular day "super tuesday." This may have been because twenty-four states were holding presidential primaries or caucuses: Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Kansas, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Utah and West Virginia. Among these 24 states the 1,681 democratic delegates are at stake in 16 primaries and seven caucuses. The Republicans have 1,020 delegates at stake in 15 primaries and six caucuses. After a long day's election Democratic candidate Barack Obama took the led by winning 13 of those 24 states votes. Republican John McCain took the lead by winning 10 of those 24 states.

February 12th

Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia. Registered voters went out this date to state who they felt their president should be. Democrate Barack Obama won votes for all three states but that did not make he arrogant. Later that night he gave a victory speech to thank his supporters and to promise is goal of changing America " This is the new American majority. This is what change looks like when it happens from the bottom up. And in this election, your voices will be heard." Mr. Obama made this statement in his speech to address the fact that everyon will count in this year's election and that he promotes change. On the Republican side John McCain was the elected winner and at his victory speech addressed the candidates of the democratic party. "But now, my friends, comes the hard part, and for America, the much bigger decision. We do not yet know for certain who will have the honor of being the Democratic Party's nominee for president. But we know where either of their candidates will lead this country, and we dare not let them." Mr. McCain was informing his supporters that he was the best candidate for the position of presidency.

February 19th

Hawaii and Wisconsin went out to vote for their primary elections and once again Democrate Barack Obama carried majority of the votes for both regions. Mr. Obama won Wisconsin by 58.1% of the votes and 42 delegates. The republican winner for Wisconsin was Senator John McCain with 54.8% of the votes, and 31 delegates. Obama won Hawaii with 75.7% of the total votes and 14 delegates. Unfortunatly the primary elections for the Republican party is not until May 19th.

In addition to Hawaii and Wisconsin voting Nevada and South Carolina preliminaries were today as well. The winning streak for McCain continues as election sparks up the community in Nevada and South Carolina on their election date of February 19, 2008. On this date in Nevada surprising to some, Clinton was the elected winner on the democratic side while Romney was the winner of Nevada and McCain was the winner of South Carolina. This election is getting pretty intense for both parties.

March 4th
Barack Obama is steadliy having a pause in his winning streak. Texas, Vermont, Ohio, and Rhode Island went out to cast their vote and of the four states primary three elected Ms. Hiliary Clinton as there candidate and the people of Vermont elected Barack Obama. Although Obama did not win Texas during the primaries he won during the Caucuses. Ms. Clinton led Ohio with 54% votes and 75 delegates, Rhode Island with 58% voted and 13 delegates and Texas with 51% voted and 65 delegates. McCain's winning streak picked up because he won all four states. Ohio with 60% votes and 85 delegates, Rhode Island 65% and 13 delegates, Texas with 51% and 12 delegates, and Vermont with 72% votes and 17 delegates. After this smooth turn around for McCain and Clinton now leading the primaries it is, anybody's election.

March 11th
On this day I made various phone calls to people I knew in Mississippi to make sure they went out and voted. These primary's probably gave McCain an arrogant attitude thinking that he has everything under control because he has not been loosing. For the state of Mississippi John McCain led the Republican with 78% votes and 36 delegates. Barack Obama's bad luck had ended he won Mississippi with 61% votes and 19 delegates. Things have really begun to heat up in the presidential race, especially between the Democratic candidates Senator Obama and Senator Clinton.

April 22nd
This primary election was held in Pennsylvania, and after Hiliary Clinton won, in giving her victory speech she seemed a little hostile. She was trying to convince Americans the she was the best candidate. She informed her viewers that Obama was nothing but a quitter and she was not. "they (the American people) deserve a President who doesn’t quit." Clinton tried to get Obama to agree to haveing a replacement North Carolina debate for the one that was cancelled. Beause Obama refused Clinton used this to assume that he may be “afraid”. John McCain led Pennslvania with 75%. He thanked he supporters for being with him thus far and he wanted everyone to know that he appreciates the voters who vote for him, as well as the voters who vote for the democratic candidates he claimed that he wants America to see that he is a better candidate then Clinton and Obama.

DCA Conference

Excellence in Communication Arts

At the first opening session of the Communication and Social Change: Exchanging Teaching Strategies and Professional Practices Conference, on Monday February 4, 2008,the guest speakers were John Weatherford and Tony Kidd. The conference was the second one of its kind, and was sponsored by the CAU Center for Excellence in Communication Arts. The first session of the conference was moderated by Shawn Evans Mitchell, an instructor in the Department of Mass Media Arts, who also serves as the faculty adviser to the student newspaper, The Panther. This conference was very important for students, but very few students were there. This conference opened a door for the professionals and instructors in the Mass Media Arts area to talk to students about issues and exchange advice and strategies that collectively deal with social change andcommunication.

The first speaker John Weatherford, is the Senior Vice President and General Manager of Public Broadcasting Atlanta. Because his background mostly was consumed of radio broadcasting, this was his main focus. He made a very interesting statement when he said that “Public radio exists to serve minorities.” I didn’t understand it, and I was a little upset when he first made the remark, but later on he explained it. He stated that public radio was one of the main ways that minorities reach out to each other and receive and transmit information about what’s going on in their particular communities. He later said that “By pure usage, radio is the most widely used medium. In 93’ we moved to digital editing…” This too was interesting because when he asked how many people really listen to the radio, not many people raised their hands. This shows that although technology is rapidly changing, radio has still proved valuable and ageless to most people.

The last speaker of the opening session Tony Kidd has been in the broadcasting business for more than 27 years. He is the Vice President for the Atlanta based radio station KISS 104.1 and his career has proven to be very extensive. His speech seemed a bit more directed to the students, than did Weatherford’s. He advised the students to,“Get as much experience in the business as you can”and to “experiment”. You have lots of time to be very creative.” When Kidd was asked what initially appealed to him and what keeps him interested in radio, he responded “the fact that I could have fun while being paid.” This is an important point because more people should consider their happiness before they select a career or field of study. Not many people can say that they absolutely love their jobs.

Both speakers were very informative and gave a lot of valuable information. The quest speakers personal experience and advice is valuable to those students aspiring to be professionals in the world of mass media. Weatherford’s speech helped me learn more about the difference between public radio and commercial radio, while Kidd’s speech inspired me to be inquisitive and further investigate my field of study. Weatherford explained the importance of media in general when he made his closing comment , “We all in our own way are storytellers, and we need to stay connected through whatever mediums. It’s essential to the human race.” I think that couldn’t have been better said, because essentially, staying connected is what the media is all about.

Changes For America

As the traffic piled up, lines wrapped around the corners, and some individuals were getting into accidents off of I 285 expressway in college park as they tried to make their way to the voting polls. Nothing stopped these Georgia residents from their participation February 5, 2008 for the primary presidential election of 2008.

The presidential election for 2008 is the most prominate election thus far. For the first time in our nation’s history, there is a strong chance that we could have either an African American President , or we could have a woman leading our nation. In this prelimanary election the democratic party of Barack Obama and Hiliary Clinton had voters in much controversy on who to vote for as a candidate since both candidates possesed the qualtites and stand firm on two great platforms.

Mt.Vernon Baptist Church located on 520 Mitchell St. acted as a polling place and was also were I cast my vote and interviewed others as well. From the workers to voters everyone was anticipating on the results of this election. A voter by the name of Roma Williams a student at Clark Atlanta University stated that she was excited about this year’s election since she just turned 18 years old and was able to vote in this election. “This is very meaningful to me, I have never been able to vote and to be able to vote during a time like this, I feel very privileged. In this election blacks have a chance to make a difference and I feel that we need to come together and make that change.” Along with Roma, Ms. Antonia Jackson felt the same way, “ This is a prominent election and all though Hilary is a great candidate with good morals and ways to change America, she is white so she can never understand what “we” go thru. Obama can understand and look out for “our” best interest. Now I’m not saying vote for him just because he’s black, but that should be a start." I also interviewed some of the workers of the primary election who agreed to share their views but asked to remain nameless. One of the workers felt that there was not enough people who came out to vote as it should have been. She stated that there was alot of people but they were missing a third of Georgia's population. The polls closed at 7 o' clock. and when 8 o’clock stricked many news stations aired the outcome of the preliminary for Georgia. Democrat Barack Obama and Replubican John McCain won georgia!!!!!

Profile Interview

Ansely Brown A.......... College Student

19 year old Newport News, Virginia native, Ansley Brown highly anticipated her attendance at one of Georgia’s most illustrious institutions, Clark Atlanta University. Although she enjoys extra-cirricular activities during her two year matriculation, she is ready to transfer, and looks forward to the opportunities life and other institutions have to offer.

As the oldest of two Ansley knew she needed to set an example for her younger sister so she chose a prestigious institution where she felt the opportunities in journalism would be endless. Although fear held Ansley back from participating in the first couple of weekly activities her freshman year, she adapted. “ I was so sure that I would make friends easily and become an active student. But it wasn’t that simple” Ansley stated. She realized that she needed to interact with students and not just expect people to cling to her. Freshman year seems to be the time when individuals learn more about themselves and people in general. Now as a rising junior Ansley has learned the ropes. On the days when she’s not interning at Upscale Magazine, hanging out with her cousin, or eating her favorite spaghetti noodles, she is participating in activities on campus including membership on the Pre-Alumni Council, editor of Morehouse's newspaper Maroon Tiger, and a member of the Mass Media Arts Club. At home you could find Ansley watching her favorite television show “ Family Guy” or the DVD of her favorite movie “Finding Nemo” while playing with her cat and thinking about the 3 dogs, cat, ginnie pig, turtle and the three fish that she has back in Virginia. This may seem like a good college life to others but not to Ansley. She’s on a journey in life and she feels CAU’s time has passed. “ I like the school but academically and financially it is not up to my standards” Ansley stated. Ansley feels that Clark needs to make some changes. She believes CAU should be a better instituition than what it is now because of the high price tuition that students are paying. Although Ansley feels that there are some problems that Clark needs to fix she does not regret going here."It was a great experience and I will never forget the things that I experienced here or my favorite teacher who has impacted my life and steered me in the right direction for my journalism career." She said speaking of English department
teacher Ms. Hall
